My name is Marisa Carrasco (yes that is only 1 “s” in my name, I know that’s odd to most.) I am a Transaction Coordinator at a locally owned company that handles real estate transactions for about 50 realtors throughout West Texas and Eastern New Mexico and my husband is a sales manager at a local car dealership. We have 5 out-of-this-world children! Our oldest daughter is 13 and has special needs but I always tell her, she’s way more special than she is needy. 😉 She is undoubtedly my best friend and full of sass! We have a son who is 10 and couldn’t be any more BOY than if you colored him blue. He keeps us busy with travel baseball, his academics and likes to torment me with Fortnite. Oh, did I mention that my husband coaches his baseball and football teams? Yeah, busy. God has also blessed me with 2 beautiful bonus daughters! They keep me fashionable and hold such a special place in my heart. And as if we aren’t on the go enough, we recently decided to add one more to our pack. Our youngest daughter was born in July 2018 and is the perfect addition that we didn’t know we needed. All 5 of our kids together have taught me so much about patience, perseverance and the true meaning of unconditional love.
I was born and raised in this wonderful city although, I did spend a nice chunk of my childhood in Austin, TX (just long enough to make me a Longhorns fan, sorry everyone!) but we just couldn’t stay away! So, we moved back and have no plans to leave now. I’ve always said that this city is such a wonderful place to raise a family. I’ll always love the way you can carry on an entire conversation with a stranger at the gas station or in line at the grocery store. In 5 minutes you’ll know what they are doing for the holidays, how they think Tech is playing right now and their outlook on the weather. In this city, we have pediatricians who follow you on Instagram just to keep up with your kids between annual well-checks, public servants who pray with you on the side of the road when your daughter has a seizure in the car and teachers who have your child for only 1 year but still check in on them years later. What more could you ask for? Only one thing…a Spanky’s on the South side of town! 😉 [but honestly, is that really too much to ask for?]
All in all, what I’m trying to say is that I LOVE it here. But the one thing I know that any mom in ANY city needs is support. Sadly until now, Lubbock moms haven’t had access to many resources to connect with other moms. (And no, Trading Up! doesn’t count!) We all spend so much time protecting ourselves and trying to decide if we are a crunchy mom or a silky mom or maybe even…a scrunchy mom? Is that really a thing? All the labels in the world and the pressure to be the perfect mom and not feed your children frozen chicken nuggets for dinner because it isn’t nutritious enough and don’t you ever say out loud that you’re tired because you’re never allowed to be tired for the next 50 years, Mama! We have the toughest job in the world! So why not surround ourselves with other moms who know exactly what we feel like every single day?
I can’t wait to pour my heart and my mind into this and allow myself to be completely vulnerable with you all. I have endless stories and experiences from being the scary mama bear special needs mama to being the loud, baseball equipment toting sports mama to even being the sit on the sidelines and just keep your opinion to yourself because you’re not the mom step-mama. I’m here to open my heart to you all and if I only ever help one person with my writing, that’s all I will ever need from this. Thank you for taking a chance on all of us and welcome to Lubbock Moms Blog!
