“Sleep When They Do”

Anyone else hate when people tell you to “sleep when they do?” The first time I heard that, I thought it was kind of like common sense. But then I actually had a baby, and a second, and a third. The part that everyone fails to remember is becoming a parent is not just taking care of the baby. You still have to clean, cook, do laundry, and, most importantly, take care of YOURSELF!

Honestly, the last thing I was able to do was “sleep when they sleep.” Not to mention that as a mama of three, they NEVER sleep at the same time! Well, at least mine, don’t!

With so much scrutiny around us from social media, friends, and even family, it is so hard to be able to feel like you can succeed, especially as a new mama. Personally, my advice to new moms is, “Sleep when you can and do what you can!”

For me, sometimes, I needed a few minutes just to sit or catch up on my reality shows more than I needed that extra 15 minutes of sleep. Sometimes, you just need a few minutes to yourself and to do nothing.

So hang in there mamas! Don’t ever feel bad for not “sleeping when they sleep” so that you can decompress or even work on that load of laundry that’s been in the dryer for three days. Do what works for you, and remember everyone is different!

How did you get through the first few weeks? What are your favorite ways to wind down and relax?
